For those accounts with over $50,000, we are currently presenting an asset allocation model that samples a fairly broad variety of stock asset types and sectors.
Currently, we are recommending the following portfolio mix:
25% in Large Cap
Value
20% in Mid-Cap
Value
15% in Small Cap
Growth
10% in Mid-Cap
Blend
10% in Foreign Large
Blend
10% in
Energy
10% in Technology
As for sample funds, we like BlackRock Equity Dividend A Load Waived (800-441-7762) as a representative for Large Cap Value, BB&T Mid Cap Value A Load Waived (800-228-1872) as a representative for Mid-Cap Value, and Vanguard Small Cap Growth Index (800-662-7447) as a good representative for Small Cap Growth. In the Mid-Cap Blend category (a mix of both growth-oriented and value-oriented Mid Cap stocks), we can suggest Ariel (800-292-7435) as a good sample. We are suggesting moving overseas with a part of the allocation, as well, and like the Foreign Large Blend category for that purpose; Foreign Large Blend refers to large international stocks that may or not be Value stocks, and a good sample fund for the category is Fifth Third International Equity A Load Waived (800-282-5706). We are also suggesting the possibility of investing in two different sectors presently: Energy and Technology. For Energy, a good sample fund is T. Rowe Price New Era (800-638-5660); for Technology, we like Waddell & Reed Advisors Science and Technology A Load Waived (888-923-3355).
There are several sample stock positions we find appropriate presently for portfolios over $50,000. Among Large Capitalization issues, we’re including Halliburton (symbol: HAL) and Chevron (symbol: CVX) from Energy, as well as Dow Chemical (symbol: DOW) and Caterpillar (symbol: CAT) from Manufacturing; from the Mid Capitalization category, we think Downey Financial (symbol: DSL) and ProAssurance (symbol: PRA) are good considerations from Financial Services, and that Men’s Wearhouse (symbol: MW) is one to sample in Retail; and from Small Cap, we like Newmarket (symbol: NEU) and First Mercury (symbol: FMR), both Financial Services stocks.
